On New Year's Eve, I photographed the Andrea and Harry's wedding at Danford's Hotel and Marina in Port Jefferson, NY. It could also be said that I went to a really fun party and brought my camera along and it would not be all that inaccurate! For me, this image really captured the festive atmosphere of the wedding. I made this image with my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 70mm, an aperture of f/2.8, exposure of 1/30th of a second, and ISO 1600. For this shot, I used my SB900 Flash on camera in TTL mode with the diffuser dome and feathered one setting back from straight up. Use of the flash allows me to use such a slow shutter speed and still get a sharp image.

I realized today that I never posted a slideshow for Maureen and Derek's Wedding from earlier this fall. This was another really fun couple I had the pleasure of getting to know this year. Their wedding took place in Morgan Memorial Park in Glen Cove, NY followed by an intimate backyard reception. It was a very candid and family-oriented day and it would have been easy to forget that I was not just another guest. Here are some of my favorite images from the day.

I made this image of Susan and Frank on their wedding night. They were a great couple and took the cold night air in stride so I could take a few evening photos of them. The bluish backlit comes from an bare strobe placed behind them. I made this image using my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 86mm, aperture of f/3.5, and exposure of 1/125th of a second at ISO 1000.

I have been doing sports photography for Farmingdale State College over the last few months and decided to choose one of these image for this week's photo of the week. Here Farmingdale Junior Forward AJ Matthews (5) fights for one of his 19 rebounds in Farmingdale's 66-57 win over Baruch College. Matthews also had 27 points and 8 blocks in the game and earned Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the Skyline Conference. I made this image using my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 135 mm, aperture of f/2.8 and exposure of 1/800th of a second at ISO 6400.

This past weekend, I went to a gathering of my fiancé's college friends to celebrate what they call "Fake Thanksgiving." It is just like Thanksgiving but done on a Saturday and with friends rather than family. I caught this image of one of the celebrants and his son on Sunday morning shortly before we left. I made this image using my Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of f/1.4 and shutter speed of 1/800th of a second at ISO 1600.

I did a test shoot with a couple models from CAZ Elite this past weekend. This image of Stephanie was my favorite shot from the day. I made this image using my 70-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens at a focal length of 160mm, at an aperture of f/2.8 and exposure of 1/640th of a second at ISO 400.

I have been waiting for a while to take some wedding pictures in the rain as it can be really nice when lit with an off-camera flash. However, I did not expect to be photographing a couple in the falling snow in the final weekend of October this year. The unseasonable weather did nothing to diminish the special day for my great couple and presented us with this opportunity for some neat photos. I made this image using my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 70mm at an aperture of f/2.8 and exposure of 1/100th of a second at ISO 1600.

I got to photograph my cousin Antonia's wedding at the Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn, New York this past weekend. In this image Antonia's father and my uncle, Anton, flashes his trademark smile in conversation with his daughter just moments before they walked outside to the ceremony. I made this image using my Nikkor 135mm DC f/2.0. Exposure time was 1/125 at an aperture of f/2.0 and ISO 1600.

This past weekend I photographed Dawn and Adam's wedding at the Riviera at Massapequa. It was a really great day with some exceptional light. I caught a lot of great moments and had a hard time choosing a single image for the photo of the week. I decided on this one of The Silk Band from Time Machine Entertainment. This was a great band who really put everything into their performance. I made this image with my Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of f/4.0 and shutter speed of 1/15th of a second at ISO 400. I used my Nikon SB900 flash set on a light stand on a balcony above the dance floor and triggered with Pocket Wizards to provide additional directional light for this image.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding at OHEKA Castle in Huntington, NY. OHEKA is one of the premier wedding venues in the country and has many great spots for photography. My personal favorite is the part of the bridal suite featured in this image. The glass doors here open to a balcony that overlooks the ceremony area and and the formal garden behind it. I caught this image of the bridesmaids watching the guests arrive shortly before the ceremony. I made this image using my Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 14mm, aperture of f/2.8, shutter speed of 1/1600th of a sec, and ISO 800.

I did an engagement session this past weekend for a very nice couple from New York City. We went to one of my favorite New York City locations, the High Line Park. This park is built on what was a freight railway and winds its way between the buildings on the West Side of New York City. This photo was taken at one section of the park where the railway runs under one of the buildings. I made this image with my Nikkor 135mm f/2.0 DC lens at an aperture of f/2.8, exposure of 1/400th of a second, and ISO 125.

This week's photo of the week captures, Sal Tuttle (#11) on his first scoring drive for Farmingdale High School as they defeated Massapequa High School 15-13 to win their conference championship in a game played at Hofstra University on May 31, 2011. Farmingdale went on to consecutive wins against West Islip (10-9 in overtime) and Shenendehowa (14-10) to advance to the Class A New York State High School Championship where they defeated Ithaca High School today (12-11 with the winning goal coming 42 seconds into overtime). I made this image with my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens with a Nikkor 1.4x Teleconverter at a focal length of 230mm, aperture of f/6.3, exposure time of 1/1000 of a second, and ISO 400.

This past Wednesday, yes on a Wednesday, I photographed the wedding of Bobby and Lindsey on the south shore of Long Island. The day after the bride and groom got dressed up again and we took some photos in New York City. As the couple, lives in Wisconsin, I had the idea for this unusual picture and being good sports, and all-around great people, they indulged me. This past week I had the opportunity to photograph the 2011 Junior Olympics Ski Jumping in Salisbury, Connecticut. It is pretty amazing to see this up close and even more so when you are watching kids who are not old enough to drive flying through the air. I spent this past weekend in Lake Tahoe, California on a ski trip with some friends. I caught this candid image of one member of the group and the son of two of the others in the morning. I particularly like the lighting in this image and the way it authentically captures a very brief moment in time. Okay, I'm biased but I have one of the cutest and happiest nephews around. I took this picture of him after a bubble bath and getting ready for bedtime story reading. I made this exposure with my Nikkor 135mm f/2.0 DC lens at an aperture of 5.6 and exposure of 1/200th of a second at ISO 200. I used an on-camera flash bounced off the wall and ceiling behind me to get the soft light I wanted on this subject.

My first assignment of the year was the christening of my friends' daughter (the young lady featured in my Photo of the Week for October 4th, 2010). At the party following the christening, I caught this nice image of one of the younger guests having a snack. I made this image using my new Nikkor 135mm DC lens at an aperture of 2.0 and exposure of 1/160th of a second at ISO 800.

I just acquired a Nikkor 135 f/2.0 DC lens. This is considered by many to be Nikon's best portrait lens. As I did not have a human subject handy I went outside to take some test shots of backyard wildlife. I caught this nice image of a squirrel that shows the sharpness of this lens on the subject and the soft background. I captured this image at an aperture of f/3.2 and exposure of 1/250th of a second at ISO400.

A while back, I photographed the wedding of Tara and Russ. The reception was at Liberty House in New Jersey so we took some formals on the water in front of the New York City Skyline. Our timing really worked out well as we caught the last of the day's light as the lights from the city started to appear. With the cold weather upon us, I was already thinking of spring when I came across some pictures I took last spring of some rain drenched flowers. I used the CS5 painting tools again on this one and liked the way it turned out. This past weekend I traveled to Delaware for a shoot and then visited my friends Scott and Evelyn and their dog, Marleau (pronounced just like Marlow), in Catonsville, MD. On Sunday morning, I helped my friends rake leaves and took some pictures of Marleau playing with tennis balls, eating sticks, and jumping in the leaf piles. The image above was captured during a rare moment of rest for this puppy. This image was made using my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of 2.8, shutter speed of 1/1600th of a second, and ISO 125.

I was out in Park Slope, Brooklyn on this past Friday, November 12th and came across this a fire that had started in a supermarket and consumed the two floors of apartments about the store. Thankfully no one at the supermarket or in the apartments above was injured. Here firefighters work to douse the fire several hours after it started. This image was made using my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 102mm, aperture of f/3.2, exposure of 1/8000th of second, and ISO 100.

I often drive across several bridges that offer a great view of New York City, particularly in the evening. This week I was crossing the Throgs Neck Bridge with this beautiful sunset off to my left. I happened to have my camera with me and snapped a quick picture. I used my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens since that was what was on my camera, an aperture of f/2.2, and a shutter speed of 1/1600th of a second at ISO 400.

This past weekend, I travelled to Albany, NY to see my Alma Mater, St. Lawrence University, play their rival Union College on Union's home field on homecoming weekend. It had been 14 years since SLU last beat Union in 1995 in my Junior year and first as a starting player for the Saints. It was a great game and thrilling to see the Saints prevail 23-14 as they scored 16 unanswered points to rally from a 7 point deficit at halftime. This photo was taken right after SLU used the wildcat formation on 3rd and goal to set up the final score of the day, a touchdown pass from wide receiver, Ethan Sutton, to wide reciever, Demetrios Haseotes, number 19 in this photo. This was the first score of Haseotes career and the first touchdown pass for Sutton. This image was captured with my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 200mm at an aperture of f/5.6 and exposure of 1/2000th of a second at ISO 400.

One of things I love about photographing children is that with them almost all photography is candid. Unlike adults, they quickly disregard the camera and go back to their exploration of their world. This week's photo comes from a recent portrait session with the one year old daughter of my friends Luis and Diana at Georgetown Waterfront Park in Washington, DC. Shortly after sunset, I was shooting with a fill flash when my subject discovered the light in the sidewalk. I quickly turned off the flash and adjusted all of my settings to accommodate the unique light this scene provided. This image was captured using my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of 2.8 and shutter speed of 1/2000th of a second at ISO 1600.

In the midst of wedding editing, I came across this image from Kathleen and Matt's recent wedding. Kathleen's uncle is a collector of classic cars so it was only natural to use this Chevy Corvair and a couple others cars for transportation from the church to the reception. This image was made using my Nikon D300 and Nikkor 10.5mm DX Fisheye Lens. The camera was mounted to the car using a rig I created using two Fat Gecko Mounts and a Superclamp and Magic Arm. The camera was triggered using pocket wizards and only ambient light was used. The rest of the details I'll keep to myself on this one.

This past weekend I photographed two weddings. Both were great events so choosing a single image wasn't easy. I selected this image of three girls playing during the reception for my Saturday wedding at the New York Institute of Technology's de Seversky Center because I love the expressions and backlighting in this image. This shot was not staged and the girls never noticed me so I caught them really being themselves. I used my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens at a focal length of 200mm for this image, which was made with a 1/1000th of a second exposure at an aperture of f/2.8 and ISO of 400.

Last month I joined other photographers from the ASMP (American Society of Media Professionals) in a volunteer project for Flashes of Hope. From their website, "Flashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization that changes the way children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for pediatric cancer research." The photos we took were at Camp Sunrise in Wheatley Heights, NY on Long Island. This summer day camp is dedicated to children with cancer and their siblings.

Understandably, it is hard for parents to send their kids away to a camp when then are sick or recovering. We were told that one of the things our photos do is convey how much fun the kids have at the camp, which is of great comfort to the parents. Some of my favorite images from the day that I think convey this well are below.

On Labor Day Weekend, I travelled to Cape Cod, Massachusetts for the wedding of Meredith and Matt. I captured this image of the some of the flower girls leaving the bed and breakfast to get in the limo to the ceremony, the highlight of their day. I made this image using my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of f/5.6 and exposure of 1/640th of a second at ISO100.

This week's photo of the week comes from the wedding of Kathleen and Matt in Freeport, NY on Long Island. To get this image while I was photographing the bride from the front of the church, I mounted my second camera on a tripod in the balcony and triggered it remotely using Pocket Wizards. This image was made by my Nikon D300 with my Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens using only ambient light. The exposure was made at an aperture of f2.8 and 1/13th of a second at an ISO of 400.

I captured this image at the August 21st wedding of Christina and Nick as they emerged from the church into bubbles blown by the friends and family that witnessed the wedding. As with many of my other images of the couple, the excitement and happiness of the day was readily evident in their expressions. For this image, I used my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of f/5.0 and exposure of 1/250th of a second at ISO of 100.

I recently photographed the wedding of a wonderful couple, Justin and Beth. I always enjoy finding candid moments at weddings and at this one there were plenty. This shot was taken at the start of the reception held at a family farm in Millerton, NY. This image was made with my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 170mm and aperture of f/2.8 and shutter speed of 1/320th of a second at ISO of 100.

Some of my favorite photos are the spontaneous ones of everyday events. This image of my nephew at the celebration of his second birthday falls in that category. This image was captured with my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens at an aperture of f/3.5 and exposure of 1/80th of a second at ISO of 800.

I recently got away for a short vacation on Brantingham Lake in upstate New York and was fortunate enough to wake up early enough to capture this sunrise at exactly 6:00am, while I was there. The wedding I photographed along with my friend and colleague, Piper Watson (www.piperwatson.com), on May 8th of this year is featured tonight at 10pm EST on TLC's new reality show DC Cupcakes. This series follows the two sisters (in the pink aprons in the photo above) who run Georgetown Cupcakes. TLC picked certain projects to feature and this wedding was one of the ones the they choose. This was also a special wedding for me since the bride and groom, Suzanne and Ryan, are friends and classmates of mine from my MBA class at Georgetown University. It was a great wedding and the cupcakes were excellent as well. The TLC crew (in the photo above) were really great to work with as well.

This past Friday I shot the wedding of Meghan and Scott at the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling College in Oaklawn, NY. This was a very fun and elegant wedding which ended dramatically with the whole bridal party (including the bride) taking a jump in the fountain. I took this shot with my Nikon D700 and 14-24mm Nikkor lens early into the festivities.

This year for the 4th of July I was in the town of King Ferry, in Upstate New York on the Cayuga Lake. On the morning of the 4th, I woke up particularly early and went out to see what the morning light offered. I found this fog covered field nearby and took HDR image a little after 6am. For this image, I used my Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 14mm. The seven exposures were made at an aperture of f/8.0 and ISO of 100.

I photographed the wedding of Stacey and Joe with my friend and talented photographer, Ian Johnson, this past weekend at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, NY. I got a lot of images I really liked and the one above is one of my favorites from the day. I captured this image with my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens at a focal length of 82mm. On a trip to Maine last week, I ran into the one animal that moves fast enough to require me to crank my shutter speed up to the maximum of 1/8000th of a second. Even at this speed you can see the slight blur at the end of the hummingbird's incredibly fast moving wings. You can also see the bird's tongue sticking out just a bit as it looks for food. I captured this image using my Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 at a focal length of 125mm, shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second, aperture of f2.8, and ISO of 1000.

The year I found myself in Syracuse, NY for Memorial Day Weekend and not surprisingly at a BBQ with some friends. I took a few pictures and particularly liked this one of the host couple's almost 2 year old son on the swing set. I like photographing children because of the emotion they readily display as they go about their lives. Here you can clearly see the excitement and happiness in this child's face at the simple act of swinging. This image was captured at 1/400th of a second at an aperture of f2.5 and ISO of 400 using my 50mm f1.4 Nikkor lens.

After a long winter, I am finally back into wedding season. This past weekend I photographed the wedding of Ryan and Suzanne at the Dahlgren Chapel at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The couple met at Georgetown's McDonough School of Business so the location had extra significance for the special day. I caught this image shortly after the ceremony just outside the chapel. I used my Nikon D700 with my Nikkor 14-24mm lens at a focal length of 21mm at an aperture of f3.2, shutter speed of 1/250th of a second, and ISO of 200.

I had the opportunity to shoot at a really great studio in New York City this past week. The location, Dream Studios NYC (http://www.dreamstudiosnyc.com/), has a great setup of ProPhoto lights and all manner of softboxes and other light modifiers. I enjoy taking an occasional behind the scenes shot and particularly liked the way this one of Gwen, a professional dance, turned out. This image was captured at an exposure of 1/125th of a second at an aperture of f11 at ISO100 using my Nikor 14-24mm lens at a focal length of 14mm.

I took this picture for my mother who knitted the sweaters that these two daughters of a family friend are wearing. It is actually a small world story as the grandmother of these two girls was my parents realtor when they moved to Lake Forest, IL in the mid-90s then I later went to college with the mother of the girls in the picture. Finally, my parents ended up moving to the same street on Long Island as the mother her husband and the two girls did within a couple months of each other. Anyway, I liked the picture enough to make it my choice for my Photo of the Week. This image was captured using my Nikor 50mm f1.4 lens at an exposure of 1/60th of a second, aperture of 3.2, and ISO 400.

After a bit of a break, I am resuming posting my photo of the week. I captured this image of my young friend Grant blowing out the candles on his third birthday a little over a week ago. This image was captured using my Nikon D700 and my 50mm f1.4 lens and using only the light from the candles at an aperture of f5.6 and shutter speed of 1/100th of a second at an ISO of 2000. Given the high ISO I also utilized noise reduction software in the post-processing of the image.

Pink Fashion Rocks! Show in Washington, DC

My friend Christa Floresca contacted me last summer to take some promotional pictures for a fundraising concert she was organizing to fight breast cancer. With the Pink Jams! concert a great success, Christa launched her new fundraising effort, a fashion show held at the Long View Gallery on this past February 24, 2010 in Washington, DC.

Pink Jams! in partnership with the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce presented headliner Betsey Johnson and 14 of the hottest Washington, DC designers in an one of a kind pink fashion show. The over $20,000 in proceeds benefited Pink Jams!, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and the DC Fashion Foundation.

Celebrity models included Miss DC 2009 and 2008, Jen Corey and Kate Marie Grinold, and Kate Michael, Miss DC 2006, aka K Street Kate, was in also attendance. Musical accompaniment was provided by the Charm City Devils. Here are some of my images from the event.

While on a recent vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado, I went on a dog sledding expedition with a few friends. While not on the sled I took a few shots of the others in the group. I like this image of the team and sled turning a corner with Siberian Huskies, Cow and Caleb leading the pack with Cow's trademark tongue hanging to his right in particular. This image was captured using my Nikor 70-200mm f2.8 lens at 1/800th of a second at an aperture of f5.0 and ISO of 400.

While visiting some friends in Colorado, I captured this image of their dog Ruby lounging on my bed in the guest room. Ruby's expressive eyebrows and plaintive stare made this my choice for photo of the week. This image was made using my Nikor 50mm f1.4 lens at an exposure of 1/60th of a second and f2.2 at ISO of 100. As the scene was backlit, I used an SB900 flash bounced off the white wall behind me to provide additional illumination.

Good candid opportunities often appear at inopportune times and difficult circumstances for a photo. The setting for this image, a moving dimly lit limo bus backlit by bright sunlight is a perfect example. I like the way this image captures the excitement of the wedding day for not only the bride and groom but also the other guests in the frame.

This image was captured at 1/250th of a second at an aperture of f3.5 and ISO of 1000. I used a Nikor 14-24mm f2.8 lens at a focal length of 14mm and SB800 flash. My Nikon D700 already generates little noise at high ISO and what little was present was cleaned up using Noise Ninja software.

This winter I got to take some pictures and play some fetch with the very enthusiastic Maddie, a lab mix who resides in Syracuse, NY. Naturally, I was drawn to the challenge of photographing a black dog on white snow but her great expression and snow sprinkled face are what made this an easy photo of the week pick. This exposure was made at 1/1000th of a second at an aperture of f/2.8 using my Nikor 70-200mm lens at a focal length of 70mm and ISO of 400.

This a shot I took for Washington, DC-based musician, Justin Trawick. This shot was actually Justin's idea and the background dancers were a group of teenagers we recruited on the spot. Justin is also the the artist you hear on my website and his birthday falls on this month so I figured he had earned a spot on the photo of the week. That and of course I really like this image.

I captured this image using a tripod and my Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens at f16.0 and 1/15th of a second at ISO100.

After an short break for the holidays, my photo of the week is back. I recently did a head shot session with NYC-based actress, Candace LaRicci. I shot the image above in Grand Central Station using a single softbox. I like the expression and eye contact in this image in particular. This is a real credit to Candace, who had to tune out all the people walking by throughout our shoot.

While shooting a BMX event about a year and a half ago, I captured the image above. I had shot hundreds of very similar frames of the various races and wanted to try something a little different. I increased the exposure time and panned with the racers to blur the motion. This was one of my favorites because of the way it takes on an abstract appearance more like a painting than a photo. This image was captured using a Nikon D40x and a Nikor 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 DX Lens at a focal length of 95mm. The exposure was for 1/30th of a second at an aperture of f10 and ISO of 100.

A little over a year ago, I took a day trip out to the Salton Sea, while I was visiting San Diego, California. The strange, barren, and smelly landscape was utterly intriguing to me and I very much look forward to revisiting this location, though I hesitate to recommend it to others. The image above is one of my favorites from my trip. This image was captured with my Nikon D300 using a Nikor 17-55mm f2.8 lens at a focal length of 55mm. The exposure time was 1/80th of a second at an aperture of f7.1 and ISO of 100.

I captured this image during a recent kids' football game. While I was focused on capturing the action shots, I am always watching for moments like this as the coach of the team gives instruction to one of the players. This image was captured using my Nikon D700, with my Nikor 70-200 f2.8 lens at a focal length of 160mm. The exposure time was 1/1000th of a second at f2.8 and ISO of 500.

One of the things I hear a lot is, "You must have a nice camera!" This comment implies that a nice (read expensive) camera is required to take good pictures. There are times and places where this is true but more often it is not. Just as talented surfers have been able to ride waves on a house door, excellent photos can be made with lower-end equipment. And just as the best board in the world won't make me even a decent surfer, the most sophisticated cameras will never substitute for experience and skill. To illustrate this point the picture above was captured with my Treo camera phone (less than 2 megapixels) while I was in Belize, several years ago. The key here is the location, composition, and the time of day, which provides the great warm lighting.

I captured this shot of the strange path of a lightning bolt on the campus of Georgetown University in Washington, DC earlier this summer. This image was on my mind the following evening when I was photographing from the top of the building in the front left of the image and the skies remained cloudy. This image was made at an aperture of f22.0 and 4 tenths of a second at ISO100 using my Nikor 14-24mm f2.8 lens at a focal length of 14mm.

In the summer of 2008, I took an amazing trip to the Philippines lasting several weeks. As I was there primarily for a wedding, I spent time in several small towns traveling and staying with the friends and family of the bride and groom. One morning we went into the market in the town of Tigoen and I noticed a woman hunched over a pile of charcoal she was gathering together and apparently selling. Her face and hands were blackened from the charcoal dust and her ragged clothes barely covered her thin frame.

In order to not draw attention to myself, I shot several frames including this one while holding my camera at my side and talking with my friend. I like the authenticity of this image, her resolute expression and posture and apparent indifference to her clothing's lack of coverage, and the way the whites of her eyes stand out against the her charcoal-stained skin. This exposure was made at 1/160th of a second with an aperture of f6.3 and ISO 400 using my Nikon D300 and Nikor 17-55mm f2.8 DX lens at a focal length of 35mm.

Even before I knew its name, I was a big fan of the triangular shaped Flatiron Building in New York City. I got a chance to take a few pictures of the building this week and thought I'd share this one. This 9 exposure HDR image was taken using my Nikor 14-24mm f2.8 lens at 14mm and f22. The high aperture and an ISO of 100 enabled me to use a slow shutter speed range from 1/80th of a second up to 3 seconds for the exposures to blur the moving figures and cars.

As the weather gets colder here on Long Island, I was reminded of the time I spent in San Diego, California just before Christmas last year. I made it out to Black's Beach after hearing great things about it. I was surprised to discover numerous parasailers and hangliders as there is a launch area above the beach. Before going for a quick dip in the Pacific, I snapped a few pictures including this one. I made this images at 1/400th of a second at aperture of f5.0.

I caught this moment at a recent wedding in Syracuse, NY of a bride being walked down the aisle by her mother. What makes this image special for me are the near identical expressions of the mother and daughter, which convey so well the emotions they are experiencing.

Here is a little on the technical details which enabled me to save the moment the way I did. This image was captured using my Nikon D700 camera using my 70-200mm Nikor f2.8 lens with an exposure of 1/125th of a second at an f2.8 aperture. This exposure was made with ambient light with my camera set to an ISO of 1600. An off camera flash is backlighting the subjects here as well. The clarity of the image is a testament to the newer Nikon CMOS sensors and noise filtering technology. What little noise was present in the image was further reduced using Noise Ninja in post-processing.

About a year ago, I licensed several of my images for use in what was then an Untitled Sam Mendes Production. That production was released in theaters this summer as the movie 'Away We Go' staring John Krasinski (Jim Halpert from NBC's The Office) and Maya Rudolph, best known for her work on Saturday Night Live. The image above was used in the set of the house of another character played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. This was an extra bonus for me since she is one of my favorite actresses. The movie is now out on video and available for rental or purchase. My picture appears about an hour into the movie and can be seen during the staring couples interesting exit from dinner with Maggie Gyllenhall's character and her family.

I took this photo of two recently engaged friends of mine in Philadelphia on boathouse row. Ryan and Suzanne are getting married next spring at Georgetown University, where they met while getting their MBA. Coincidentally, the same way I met them.
